Wonderwoods: Tallest Green Building in The Netherlands Reaches New Heights

Wonderwoods, the tallest environmentally friendly building in The Netherlands, has achieved a significant milestone by reaching its highest point. Yesterday, in the presence of the developer G&S&, the architects, the Wonderwoods Construction Consortium, and all invited guests, Utrecht alderman Eelco Eerenberg gave the signal to commence the building's topping out ceremony. As part of the I Light U festival, themed Urban Transformation, the Wonderwoods facade was specially illuminated with light art.

MVSA featured in ‘Gebouwd in Amsterdam’ projectbook 2022/2023

It’s an honor to have two of MVSA’s projects featured in Gebouwd in Amsterdam’s (Built in Amsterdam) project book for 2022/2023. This list highlights the architectural projects completed between August 2022 and August 2023. This edition features two residential projects designed by MVSA: Valerius and Frame Building. Although distinctive in appearance, both illustrate MVSA’s commitment to creating lasting works of art that create positive societal and aesthetic value.
Westfield Mall of the Netherlands
Our multi-award-winning design for the Westfield Mall of the Netherlands works a magical transformation on what was a dated, run-of-the-mill shopping centre. We were asked to remodel the existing building in Leidschendam to make it an all-round contemporary urban leisure destination, expanding it from 70,000m2 to 200,000m2 in the process to become the Netherlands’ largest mall.
Rotterdam Central Station
The completion of the new 46,000 m² station has put Rotterdam central station squarely back on the map as a major city-centre hub. It plays an important role in the European network of high-speed rail connections, serving as a gateway to Europe. It is here that countless European passengers enter and leave the Netherlands. This two-way connection between the city and Europe also adds an extra dimension to the station and its surroundings. This made it a particularly interesting assignment for us.
Holland Casino Venlo
It was our spectacular design for a flower-shaped, sculptural building that won us the tender for Holland Casino Venlo. Behind its show-stopping good looks, it embodies two major design principles: sustainability, and optimizing the user experience.
From a distance, our unique building is highly visible, appearing as a kind of welcoming gateway to the Netherlands (Venlo is just a short hop from the German border). A colour-changing interactive façade provides a breath taking light show during the darker hours, while emphasizing the casino’s flower-shaped structure.
