Unique hotel in a carefully renovated monument
The Rijkspostspaarbank building has occupied a prime location in one of the most genteel districts of Amsterdam since 1901. The monumental complex is a stone’s throw from world-famous institutions such as the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum, as well as the Royal Concertgebouw concert hall, luxury shopping streets such as the P.C. Hooftstraat and Van Baerlestraat, and the ever-charming Vondelpark.

MVSA and architect bureau J. van Stigt were involved in the project at an early stage. Van Stigt was tasked with the renovation while MVSA had the brief to design the new construction required for a luxury hotel with 129 rooms, hypermodern spaces for various events, public facilities and retail in the plinth, and a luxury spa & gym in the new cellar.

The hotel reception is situated in the inner courtyard, where a new atrium accommodates the lobby and brasserie. The atrium is occupied by a glass building with conference rooms and lifts, which provide access to the floors of the hotel. The old section of the complex has seen its corridors and stairwells beautifully renovated, allowing the old tile panels, cross vaults and stone to be admired in their original state.
