MVSA were asked to make a design study for a 10 kilometres-long covered cycle path along Doha’s coast line. This openwork, aboveground tunnel affords protection from the unrelenting sun and high temperatures that make cycling in the open air in this desert state impracticable for most of the time. The dynamic structure contributes to the sense of speed while cycling.
The structure is designed to react along with the weather and climate conditions. Keeping a cool enclosed environment inside for the bike riders when the sun shines during the day, and opening up for more interactive exchanges between outside and inside as the daytime heat disappears an lets the cool wind from the sea create a natural breeze in the corridor.
